Medical and Pharmaceutical Translations

Medlex Baltics has achieved the prestigious ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17100:2015 certifications and is a competent provider of medical and pharmaceutical translations in accordance with the existing industry guidelines. We understand the demands if these strictly regulated industries and consequently we try to ensure that our clients in the medical and pharmaceutical fields receive quality translations while we closely follow all the industry news, requirements, guidelines, development tendencies.

Pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries develop at a rapid pace, continuously coming up with innovations that an average person finds difficult to understand even on the level of a basic description; however, a translator working on a scientific translation has to possess the knowledge that balances on the border of scientific and linguistic expertise. In order to execute the translation of a scientific article, it is necessary to involve a whole team of experts, such as scientists, linguists, terminology specialists, editors, etc. We can make it possible thanks to our team of translators with more than 20 years of experience in the respective areas of expertise. All of the Medlex Baltics medical and pharmaceutical translators and editors are higher education professionals in the fields of medicine, pharmacology, chemistry, and biology with at least 5 years’ experience in translating and editing of medical texts. At the same time, we work in close cooperation with our clients in order to ensure that all the translated materials comply with the pharmacological market regulations, as well as with the demands of practising physicians and their patients.

Medlex Baltics has been helping its clients to carry out urgent projects in clinical studies, as well as other medicine-related projects, successfully executing them under extremely tight deadlines not only in Latvia but also in the other Baltic States.

Clinical trials and research in Latvia date back to 1991. Every year the number of clinical trials conducted in Latvia continues to increase. According to the data published by the Latvian State Agency of Medicines, in 2011 alone about 240 clinical research studies were conducted. Most of these studies require translations into both the Latvian and Russian languages; however, in Latvia there is a shortage of specialists that are capable of professionally translating such documentation while incorporating the latest terminology updates and following the required industry guidelines. In Estonia, the corresponding number of such studies was also about 200 (according to the data provided by the Estonian State Agency of Medicines Ravimiamet), and in Lithuania — about 100. This industry is continuously growing and is starting to really establish itself in the Baltic States. At the moment, its market share in the Baltics is still relatively small; however, it has a significant growth potential.

Our team consists of some of the best specialists, who closely follow the industry’s developmental tendencies, as well as its linguistic and terminological evolvement not only in the Baltic States but also in the rest of Europe. Thus we can ensure that clinical research documentation gets translated promptly and according to the industry’s accepted standards and guidelines.

Advertising and Marketing

Advertising and marketing materials are generally translated following very different standards. In fact, the advertising industry does not impose clearly defined rules and is governed by the law of creativity; therefore, in translation such texts are allowed to be adapted according to the local mentality, habits, traditions, and prevailing tendencies of a specific market.

Our localization specialists, editors, and translators on a regular basis come across a wide variety of advertisements and customise them to suit a particular cultural environment.

Legal Translations

Medlex Baltics has implemented large-scale European legal documentation translation projects, which involved almost a hundred translators and editors, closely following all the terminology requirements and ensuring the adequate quality control, and thus successfully meeting the clients’ expectations and helping them achieve their goal within a relatively short timeframe. Legal translations can be divided into different categories depending on their degree of difficulty, from relatively straightforward letters of attorney to sophisticated legal research studies, in which legal information frequently intertwines with financial data. In order to translate such complicated texts, a translator should be equally familiar with the terminology from both of those fields; in addition, it is desirable that this translator is a legal professional with an additional professional degree, which was obtained in a respective foreign language. We continuously strive to provide our clients with competent legal translations because we understand that a high-quality translation is in a way a trademark of your business — an added value to the services and products you offer to your customers. Therefore, we apply the synergy approach in our business, which is the result of our translators’ work combined with the products or services provided by our clients.

We can prepare certified or notarized legal translations corresponding to specific local regulations that determine in which format legal documents are submitted to state agencies and institutions in each respective country.

Financial Translations

The world on finance is complex and interesting at the same time, as it shows us the state of affairs through the basic numerical view; in essence, it allows us to potentially scan the financial condition of any enterprise or individual, and not everyone is capable of translating accounting documentation or annual financial reports. Just like any accountant knows each balance sheet by heart, a translator specialising in financial translations is familiar with all of the intricacies of the terminology pertaining to this field, which is obtained through years of translating balance sheets and annual reports (consolidated accounts), quarterly reports, and other documentation loaded with specialised financial terminology. Some of our translators either worked as auditors or have been translating such texts for many years, all of which allows them to be quite virtuosic when tackling those translating challenges.

The majority of our clients are auditing firms, law firms, and state agencies, with whom we have been cooperating for many years and who by now consider us their strategic partners.

IT

Information technologies and the virtual world we live in right now in many ways determine our life’s rhythm and even its model.

Naturally, there exists a substantial difference in whether we have to localize an anti-virus software program or a social media platform. In one case, it is essential to comply with the professional language modules that are widely used and accepted by the industry professionals; in the second case scenario, it is important to be able to provide translations that are tailored to the mentality of average users and is easily understood by them. However, in both cases it is necessary to involve translating professionals, who are capable of ensuring that the respective product successfully reaches its target audience.

We have invited into our team several IT specialists, who continuously follow the language developments of the IT field and who have gained extensive experience in localising various large-scale software and website projects, and which will ensure that your products and services will reach their target audience. While the IT language is quite jargonized, it is also full of neologisms and other terms, and only IT specialists and translators, who deal with these texts on a regular basis, are really familiar with their intricacies and their inexhaustible creative potential. Medlex Baltics has created an extensive database of the IT terminology that will ensure immaculate presentation of any of your most complicated IT product or service.

Interpreting Services

A good interpreter should not only be a competent translator but should also possess a pleasant personality and strong communication ability. At Medlex Baltics we follow this principle when assigning interpreters to our clients. Many of our clients are return customers, who are thankful not only for our interpreters’ expert knowledge and professionalism but also for their outstanding communication skills and personal qualities.

Medlex Baltics can provide interpreting services in a variety of fields, from cosmetology to high-tech, while always guaranteeing the interpreter’s competency in the respective sphere of knowledge.

When ordering simultaneous interpreting services it is important to keep in mind that it is necessary to use two simultaneous interpreters for one job. Simultaneous interpreting requires an extremely high degree of concentration, and, working in pairs helps interpreters avoid errors and inaccuracies during the process of simultaneous interpreting.

Whenever a consecutive interpreting is required, only one interpreter is usually assigned to the job as this type of service does not require such an intense degree of concentration. However, each industry has its own specific standards and requires a specific set of knowledge; therefore, each time a consecutive interpreting service is requested, we carefully select interpreters with respective experience, who, in some cases are themselves professionals working in that particular field. More often than not such experts are invited to provide consecutive interpreting services associated with medicine, pharmacology and law.

In addition, Medlex Baltics provides whispered interpreting services, court interpreting services, teleconference interpreting services, and guide-interpreter services.

Graphic Image Localisation

Medlex Baltics provides services in translating and localisation of any graphical components of the original text, ensuring the correct placement of tables and other graphics in the target language. We also offer desktop publishing services for creating booklets and brochures, as well as prepress services, ensuring that the translated booklets, brochures, and/or other materials fully correspond to the originals in terms of design and colour composition.
